The Year After MP3 Sound Controller (Click "run controller" above to start)

This is an experimental feature and probably inappropriate use of the Gameboy audio jack.

You will need to hook up an audio cable from your Gameboy into the mic jack of your computer. A standard audio connector cable may not work. You will need something like Headset Buddy to be able to pipe audio directly into your mic jack. It will probably also work with a USB audio interface but I have not tested it.

You should see the needle and bars jumping if the sound is going in correctly from the Gameboy.

If the bars and needle do not jump, make sure you have the correct microphone selected for your web browser.

Suggested Parts (Please examine your own computer and make sure these are correct for your own machine. In particular, make sure your computer doesn't only have a headset jack but has a mic-in or a mic/headset combo jack)

A. 3.5mm to 3.5mm male-to-male adapter
B. Headset Buddy
C. Headphone 3.5mm Splitter (May not be needed)
D. Headphone Mic and Audio Splitter (Untested. If you have a mic/audio combo jack on your computer, you may be able to skip item C and go from B to D mic-in)

I have successfully gone from A-B-C to my computer to make the sound play through this interface page. All other methods are untested but theoretically should work. You will need to try it yourself. By chance, once I was able to get the Headset Buddy to go to an older iPhone 3.5mm audio jack and sound out through Bluetooth speakers. However I was unable to do it again. On iOS, it seems like once something is plugged in to the 3.5mm jack, Bluetooth speakers do not work.

Feel free to drop a comment or post a picture if you were able to get it working and let me know your setup! Spread the love on Reddit or elsewhere!

Hi, I'd love to try this but I'm having difficulty to understand what cable go where.

I see the recommended "Headset buddy". I'm not sure if that 3.5 plug is going into the pc and what else do I need between that and the Gameboy

Hey there, I have put more instructions on this page. Hopefully this makes it more clear. I hope it goes well!

Hi! It's totally more clear now. That image is perfect!

Now I know what cables I should be looking for if I want to try this.

Thank you
